Waiting for the Milan Design Week 2022, which will be held in June, we retrace the DIOR 2021 event through our photographs.
DIOR: the iconic Medallion Chair revisited by 17 artists
On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2021, the DIOR maison invited 17 artists and designers, famous all over the world, to reinterpret the iconic Medallion Chair, each one redesigning it in their own way, with their own flair and their own imagination.
The exhibition event was held at Palazzo Citterio in via Brera 12, the future home of the modern art collection of the Pinacoteca di Brera.
The chair, symbol of the LuigiXVI style, was adopted by Dior himself in 1947 and used it to seat guests at his fashion shows, describing it as “sober, simple and above all classic and Parisian”.
The chair was immortalised in the 1955 Diorama and the 1958 Miss Dior perfume campaigns by illustrator René Grau.
The Medaillion Chair has been revisited by the following artists:
Sam Baron, Nacho Carbonell, Pierre Charpin, Dimorestudio, Khaled El Mays, Martino Gamper, Constance Guisset, India Mahdavi, Nendo, Joy de Rohan Chabot, Linde Freya Tangelder, AtangTshikare, Seungjin Yang, Ma Yansong, Jinyeong Yeon, Tokujin Yoshioka e Pierre Yovanovitch.
